APT HD Presents a November to Remember
Schedule Packed With Five Exceptional New Documentaries

Chihuly in the Hotshop

APT HD premieres four new documentaries on successive Sundays in November.

We begin on November 2, with KPBS' Alzheimer's: The Cost of Growing Old (1x30; HD) to mark Alzheimer's Awareness Month. This dramatic special shows the toll the disease takes on the patients and caregivers, both emotionally and financially, while nationally recognized experts discuss the disease's potential impact on the United States.

The following Sunday, if you haven't already succumbed to election fever, take a civics refresher with WCVE's Questioning the Constitution (1x60; Widescreen). Politicians, scholars and activists detail the development and structure of the Constitution, its various interpretations and the debate surrounding its possible reformation. Features Julian Bond, Bob Dole and Geraldine Ferraro.

Next, KCTS' fast-paced documentary Chihuly in the Hotshop (1x60; HD) finds glass artist Dale Chihuly re-creating his most famous works during a week-long residency at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington.

On the 23rd, we debut the latest installment of the Great Museums Specials series. Smithsonian National Zoo: Wild Thing! (1x60; HD), goes behind-the-scenes at the world-famous National Zoo in Washington, D.C., where scientists, curators, animal keepers, veterinarians and volunteers work to preserve endangered species on the edge of extinction.

Highlighting this month
We pre-empt part of our regular schedule on Tuesday, November 11 to pay tribute to America's veterans. Return to the battlefields of France to commemorate the poignant D-Day victory with episodes from OPB's Rick Steves' Europe ("Normandy: War-Torn Yet Full of Life") and KCTS' Smart Travels – Europe With Rudy Maxa ("France's Normandy"). Next, WQED's In Country: A Vietnam Story chronicles the return of three soldiers to South Vietnam where they rediscover a country and a people they last saw through the harsh prism of war. We close out our Veterans Day offerings with Lincoln and Lee at Antietam — The Cost of Freedom from WPSU. First-person accounts and commemorative Civil War footage brings vividly to life this defining American battle

. Also highlighting…
The bird is the word on Thursday, November 27 as APT HD celebrates Thanksgiving with two episodes from the Katie Brown Workshop and a film about a quintessential American artist. In "Best of Holidays" and "Harvest," the effervescent host comes to the rescue with delicious holiday recipes for squash soup, roast turkey, wild rice stuffing with mushroom gravy and nutty caramel pumpkin pie. In back-to-back episodes of WKNO's Winslow Homer: Society and Solitude (2x60; Widescreen), noted artists and scholars discuss the life and work of wood-graver/illustrator/painter Winslow Homer (1836-1910), one of the great recluses of his time.
