APT Worldwide Provides Hot Titles at MIPCOM 2004
Lifestyle and Health Titles Dominate at International Marketplace
PRESS RELEASE
(BOSTON October 21, 2004) APT Worldwide, the international sales division of U.S. public television distributor American Public Television, reported today that lifestyle and health titles were the dominant programs of choice at this year's MIPCOM. Wine, Food, and Friends with Karen MacNeil (13x30), a lively series about food and wine pairings, and The Cure (1x60), a look at startling discoveries in the treatment of heart disease and strokes, were just two of the many new titles that have brought these genres into the forefront of programming consideration.
"Since American Public Television is the leading supplier of cooking shows in the United States, lifestyle is always a strong seller for us," says Judy Barlow, vice president of International Sales. "But at MIPCOM this year, there was also a lot of interest in programs relating to global health issues, such as eating disorders and scientific advancements within the medical field. Many buyers requested Perfect Illusions: Eating Disorders and the Family (1x60) and the genetic research series Secrets of the Sequence (52x30), both of which explore these topics."
In addition to lifestyle and health titles, MIPCOM buyers also showed a strong interest for current affairs programming. Topical documentaries such as A Great Wonder (1x60), a portrait of the Lost Children of Sudan, and Thirst (1x60), a look at the battle for control of the world's water supplies, proved especially popular with programmers looking to tie their offerings to recent high-profile news events. Other titles that fared well for APT
Worldwide included: September's Children (1x60), which examines the impact of war and terrorism on children; and The Dabbawallas (1x60), a study of human and social ingenuity among workers in Bombay, India.
