What is a bicycle (bike) tape?

A "bike tape" is a broadcast tape borrowed from the APT library that is shipped from station to station. Stations are welcome to borrow the bike tapes in the event they missed the original satellite feeds. Bike tapes remain APT property and only a request from APT can move a bike tape to another location. Please see our bike tape policy for further rules and booking information. Bike requests can be e-mailed to APT's Traffic Coordinator.

Where can I find the APT Technical Specifications?

Find the Videotape Technical Requirements for each program in the Producer's Handbook under Technical Specifications.

I have arranged for a pre-release. How do I get the program?

Send tape booking request to APT Traffic Coordinator.

Where should the TV Rating Icon go?

Instructions for on-air icon use: The appropriate icon should appear in the upper left corner of the picture frame for the first 15 seconds of a program. The icon should be 52 scan lines high and have at least a 70% density. Either a white background with black text or a black background with white text may be used to ensure that the icon can be clearly seen against any program opening.

Where can I get the TV Ratings Icon?

Contact the Operations Associate for either a Digi-Beta, BetaSP or HD-Cam of the APT Logo with Ratings Icons.

Where can I get the APT Logo?

Contact the Operations Associate or Director of Distribution Services to request either a Digi-Beta, BetaSP or HD-Cam of the APT Logo with Ratings Icons.

Can I get rid of these tapes in our library?

As part of the Bike agreement, stations must house APT bicycle tapes in their library until APT requests they be sent elsewhere.

I think some of these tapes are really old. Do I still have to hold onto them?

Should you have questions as to whether a program is still in rights Contact the Operations Associate to determine whether and/or where the tapes should be shipped.

What do I do with expired shows?

Contact the Operations Associate to determine where the tapes should be shipped.

Does the underwriter credit need to be closed captioned on a closed captioned program?

If the program is closed captioned, all elements of the program must be closed captioned. The only exception is when the audio matches the textual elements on the screen.
