SYNDICATION

Style and Tone

American Public Television must approve all on-air offers and tag video/audio copy. If the tag is not approved by American Public Television, it will be returned to supplier for re-editing if time permits. If time does not permit, American Public Television will re-edit the tag at supplier's expense.

A product offer tag may not exceed 30 seconds.

Offers must be consistent in tone and substance with the noncommercial nature of public television (that is no "hard sells" or calls to action). Phrases such as "only $19.95," "exciting collection," "call now" or "order yours today" are not permissible.

Audio should be low-key, not fast-paced, loud or shrill.

Visuals may include video excerpts, video excerpts inside a mock sleeve, actual product shots, or mock-ups if they bear a close resemblance to the actual product.

Video or audio unrelated to the offer is not permissible.

The host or talent of a program may not be used to sell the product.

The offerer and American Public Television must be identified in the tag. Corporate logos may be used, but should be minimal in size and for identification purposes only. Corporate slogans are not allowed, that is "the leader in home entertainment" would not be acceptable.

If the offerer is a non-profit entity, American Public Television does not need to be identified.

Deliverables

The offer text must be submitted to American Public Television in written form at least three months before the program release date, along with a sample of the product to be offered. American Public Television will provide offer information to licensees. Samples of products must be made available to stations, upon request, at no charge.

The tag should be delivered to American Public Television eight weeks prior to the release date. It should be on a separate tape from the program masters, and in the same format (BETA SP, digital BETA, HD Cam). American Public Television will edit the tag onto the masters.

American Public Television reserves the right for stations to edit the tag off the program.
