Food Trip With Todd English and Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie
awarded TV's top culinary honors in 2006
Boston (May 10, 2007) Two of American Public Television's (APT) popular cooking programs, FOOD TRIP WITH TODD ENGLISH and GOURMET'S DIARY OF A FOODIE, received prestigious James Beard Awards in the Broadcast Media categories for television programs, webcasting and radio. The awards were announced on May 6 in New York City. Top chefs from around the nation attended the event honoring America's culinary industry in 62 categories that include restaurants, television programs, cookbooks, chefs and more.
FOOD TRIP WITH TODD ENGLISH won Best Television Food Special. The program, produced by WGBH/Boston, features celebrity chef Todd English's culinary adventures in Japan, where he learns about local cooking traditions and feasts on delicacies like sushi and Kobe beef.
APT highly acclaimed cooking series dominated the Best National Television Food Show category, but GOURMET'S DIARY OF A FOODIE (produced by WGBH/Boston) ultimately edged out the distributor's other nominees, AMERICA'S TEST KITCHEN FROM COOK'S ILLUSTRATED and LIDIA'S FAMILY TABLE. GOURMET'S DIARY OF A FOODIE, featuring the magazine's Editor-In-Chief Ruth Reichl and her knowledgeable team, uncovers the latest cutting-edge food trends, must-use ingredients, kitchen gadgets and food destinations around the world.
In addition, Rick Bayless' Chicago eatery, Frontera Grill, won the Outstanding Restaurant award. Bayless hosts APT's MEXICO - ONE PLATE AT A TIME WITH RICK BAYLESS – a high-definition cooking series that explores culinary specialties from regions throughout Mexico.
All five of these cooking shows currently air on public television stations nationwide and on the multi-cast digital lifestyle channel Create™.
Each year, APT distributes more than 300 new titles, including many in the ever-popular cooking genre. APT's cooking series showcase the best of what public television has to offer: high-quality productions featuring dynamic hosts and James Beard award-winning chefs like Jacques Pépin, Rick Bayless, Steven Raichlen, Charlie Trotter, Joanne Weir and now Todd English. From Italian, barbecue and Mexican cuisine to kosher, organic and Scandinavian delights, APT's range of cooking shows has wide appeal and a proven track record as audience pleasers.
