AMERICAN PUBLIC TELEVISION-DISTRIBUTED SHOWS HONORED WITH NEWS AND DOCUMENTARY EMMY AWARD NOMINATIONS

Worldfocus and In the Footsteps of Marco Polo receive 2009 News and Documentary Emmy Award nominations.

BOSTON (July 23, 2009) -- American Public Television’s (APT) programs continue to be recognized by the television industry’s most prestigious organizations. Two APT shows have been nominated for honors at the 2009 News and Documentary Emmy Awards, which will be presented September 21, 2009 at Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.

APT’s primetime evening newscast WORLDFOCUS, produced and presented by WNET.org, received two Emmy nominations. The show was nominated for “Outstanding Feature Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast” for its report entitled “21st Century Africa,” and earned a nod in the category of “Best Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast” for its report “War in Congo.” WORLDFOCUS can be seen daily on public television stations nationwide.

The APT Exchange program IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MARCO POLO, produced and presented by WLIW, was nominated in the category of “Outstanding Arts and Culture Programming,” alongside features from 20/20, P.O.V. and Sixty Minutes. The program captures a remarkable, two-year, 25,000-mile modern-day attempt to retrace Marco Polo's legendary trek from Venice, Italy to China, as two friends hailing from Queens, New York try to complete Polo’s epic journey by land and by sea. IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MARCO POLO can be seen can be seen on public television stations nationwide.
