BOSTON, Massachusetts (September 25, 2006): APT Worldwide, the international sales division of U.S. public television distributor American Public Television, has secured international representation rights for two compelling new documentaries from New York-based production company Rainlake Productions: the one-hour Crossing Arizona and the feature-length Follow My Voice: With the Music of Hedwig. An official selection of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, Crossing Arizona examines the divisive issue of illegal immigration from the perspective of those directly impacted by it. Follow My Voice: With the Music of Hedwig, an official selection of the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival, is a rollicking, behind-the-scenes look at the creation of a benefit album based on the music of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The two new titles add to the current music, doc, nature, science and lifestyle genres in APT Worldwide's non-fiction catalog. APT and APT Worldwide will be based at booth number 16.23 for MIPCOM.
Winner of the One-Future Award at the 2006 Munich Film Festival, Crossing Arizona brings a personal perspective to the complex and often heartbreaking dilemma of illegal immigration. The documentary focuses on the steady flow of illegal immigrants from Mexico into the United States, detailing how changes in U.S. policy have forced many illegal border-crossers to attempt dangerous journeys across miles of treacherous desert terrain. From the humanitarian organizations intent on saving lives to the armed militia groups who have decided to take justice into their own hands, Crossing Arizona gives voice to all the major players in this thorny debate.
Follow My Voice: With the Music of Hedwig, which features recording studio sessions with a who's who of indie rockers — including The Breeders, Yoko Ono, Sleater-Kinney, Rufus Wainwright and The Polyphonic Spree — is a unique look into the creative process. Assembled to contribute to a benefit album for a New York City youth center and high school for gay and lesbian students, the musicians offer their own take on the songs from the hit musical and film, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The film also documents the stories of four teens from the school with video diaries and interviews, echoing their struggles and aspirations with music from the acclaimed production.
