The award-winning GREAT MUSEUMS series returns with two new, high-definition specials. The first, "An Acquiring Mind," examines the prolific 31-tenure of Philippe de Montebello, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's longest-serving director who guided the acquisition of more than 84,0000 works of art. From Duccio’s Madonna and Child to Van Gogh’s Wheatfield with Cypresses, go behind the scenes with de Montebello and his curatorial team as they debate the purchase of masterworks for the museum and mount an exhibit featuring 300 of the Met's most important artworks. Susan Stamberg narrates. The second, "New Orleans: A Living Museum of Music," features inspiring personal narratives of those most deeply affected by Hurricane Katrina. From the Lower Ninth Ward to Congo Square, the film reveals the enormous recovery effort underway to preserve America's greatest musical art form.
